Hand blown demijohns, woven wicker flasks and bottles

Glass Museum

Historians identify the achievement of the apex of great prestige of the Piegaro glassworks in the 17th century, confirmed by the presence of a Lordship of Glassmakers, denominated after 1576 Flag of the Cross. During the modern age, especially in the 18th century, glass production suffered a long crisis, in fact the master glassmakers of Piegaro did not start an industrialisation process as did many other production centres in the rest of Europe, limiting the production to flasks and bottles. Only in the 19th century, when Marquis Geremia Misciatelli reorganised the processing and marketing, did the glassworks rise again, seeing an increase in production.
